An exploration of how a song can change over 3 years... What happens when the person you wrote something about is no longer present in your life? When you don't really know if any of the things you wrote about them are still true? When you thought a song was finished, but now you're not so sure? Do you change tenses? Do you modify things to be true now? Or respect the past truths?
For the first time that I can think of, I chose the former, and this collection of demos represents one song at 3 different stages of its development: the first being right around the time I first wrote it while living in a small town in France in the Spring of 2016; the second being my first stab at revisiting the song over 3 years later and trying to modify the lyrics to be relevant now; the third being the final, unmastered demo recorded after a few weeks of lyrical reworking.
With each album purchase you will receive a PDF of images taken from my actual journals (I am nothing if not consistent, same style of moleskin AND same brand of pen even after 3 years!) which illustrate the different versions of the song I had along the way, the ideas that made the cut vs. the ideas that didn't, and my messy handwriting! I hope by sharing these recordings and accompanying lyric sheets you will gain some insight into my songwriting process and perhaps find that interesting or useful in some way! xoxo
